ALLAN HERON
Allan has been on staff with Youth Unlimited/YFC since 1996 and has served as the Executive Director since 2001.
Youth Unlimited is an international organization that is passionate about seeing young people engage with the Good News of Jesus in relevant ways. In Quebec, Youth Unlimited has over 30 staff and runs six different ministry centres. Programs are developed to respond to local needs and include drop-in centres, mentoring, nutrition, homework help, unplanned pregnancy care, leadership development, large events, day camps and “sleep-away” camps.
All YU staff share a deep passion to care for and engage with youth in relevant and practical ways in order that the youth of Quebec might live fully in Christ.
Allan grew up in Val d’Or, Quebec where his dad pastored a French Baptist church. The family moved to Montreal when he was 12 and attended the church in Verdun where his dad was the pastor.
In High School, Allan was deeply impacted by the ministry of Youth for Christ (YU/YFC). Though he began following Jesus at a young age, it was through the YU/YFC activities and staff that his faith really began to take hold of his life. After graduating from High School, he began to volunteer with the organization and also took on the role of youth leader at his church.
Allan had a burden for the smaller French churches of Quebec but at the time, YU/YFC programs were almost exclusively English. It was in a hockey dressing room that the Executive Director at the time challenged him to consider joining the YU/YFC team to grow the French side of the ministry. Though, at the time, it may have felt like it fell on deaf ears, it deeply impacted him. Shortly after graduating from University with a degree in Finance and Accounting, he finally “gave in” to God’s call to full time youth ministry. He has been with Youth Unlimited ever since.
Allan is married to his lifelong friend, Dorothy, and they have 4 girls, Stephanie, Meghan, Lianne, and Annika.
