This orphanage was founded in 2010 after the earthquake that devastated Haïti. One of our missionaries, Asmick Jean-Jacques (working for YU as director of La Corde) has been involved from the beginning and has a leadership position on the Board.
L’Arche Orphanage mission is to invest in the lives of children of Haiti by responding to their physical and spiritual needs in order to insure their long-term development. Their vision is to feed, educate, and bring restoration to children in Haiti in order to build a better society in Haiti. Their clientele consists of orphans, street kids who have been abandoned and are living in the street and children that are living in extreme poverty who are brought at the orphanage by their parents or relatives du to lack of hope.
Bethel Community Church has been supporting the orphanage financially since that time and has sent members to Haïti on short term missions at various times over the years. As well as the monthly financial support sent to l’Arche, Bethel’s team, ‘Bethel for Doro and l’Arche’ has been raising funds for special projects through the Ride for Refuge since 2020. We helped them establish a bakery and a fish farm as well as providing for their basic needs.
Recently, because of gang wars in Haiti, they have had to leave their property in Gonaïves and move to Port-au-Prince for safety. The children do not have the freedom to walk about outside because of the danger of kidnapping and must be bussed to school. The property at Gonaïves is being guarded and so far it seems that it has been unharmed. Because of this situation their expenses have doubled due to rental costs and inflated prices.
